In Bedburg (near Cologne), a new district for more than 3,000 people is being built on the grounds of the former sugar factory. The flagship project is being developed by Sybac Immobilien GmbH over a plot of more than 150,000 m². Mr Sassen, at the same time General Counsel of the Sybac Solar Group, is advising the developer in securing building approval as well as in the realisation of the overall project.

It is to be an urban district of the future: on 14th November, Prof. Johannes Kister of kister scheithauer gross architects and city planners from Cologne/Leipzig presented his plans for a new quarter in Bedburg to the committee members and visitors to the meeting. A state-of-the-art quarter is to be built on the grounds of the former sugar factory.

Integrated into the Bedburg cityscape and yet very individually designed, it's intended to be a "mixed residential area". This means that there is committed social housing, homes that are subject to the maximum rent threshold and also flats and houses that cater to upscale demands. The original natural environment of the site is being preserved and is part of the concept. This special feature is underlined by the river Erft and other waterways. The urbanity of the quarter is consolidated, among other things, by a school, a daycare facility and food and dining establishments.
